When I turned the first few pages of The Unholy Realm, I felt like I was entering a very spiritual but also very real world. Reality is shown in this story, which includes horrific events that take place in sex and labor trafficking, along with hope, healing, and a divine purpose. Very few books are able to combine faith-based stories with such honest, current topics while still maintaining a strong sense of kindness and compassion, but author, Dr. Karyn Darnell, masters this beautifully.

The most powerful thing about this book for me was how clearly it brought to light struggles that happen behind closed doors, on the edges of society, and are rarely noticed. The story is told in a quietly strong manor. Every scene has a sense of what is real; it also makes people think, feel, and then act.

I loved how the author skillfully mixed historical and modern timelines. The spiritual aspect of the book added a deep layer—it doesn't preach, but it definitely lifts. I was challenged, encouraged, and deeply moved. The writing is easy to understand yet poetic, and the pace is perfect, pulling you into a world that feels both far away but very present.

The Unholy Realm is much more than just a story. It's moving, and Dr. Darnell didn't play down the pain in the story. Every book shows how much she cares about faith and doing what's right. This is the kind of book that stays with you long after you've finished reading it. It's a story about strength, finding purpose, and always looking for light in the dark.

Dr. Karyn Darnell

Dr. Karyn Darnell is the author of the "True Privilege" book series. The first three books in the series are entitled, The Unholy Realm, Eliza’s Elation, and Revelation to Faith.

The series is a fictional, faith-based story spanning over 100 years and is inspired by true facts regarding sex and labor trafficking. It's a mind-bending story written to inspire others to fulfill their purpose and help save those who can't save themselves, including those being trafficked for sex and labor around the world.

Dr. Darnell has worked in business, as a registered nurse, and as a counselor. Amidst her earnest business endeavors, it has been her passion to bring the hope of God to the lives around her. She has ministered in the prison system, rehab houses, and International Healing Rooms. She has traveled abroad raising up young Christian leaders in Asia and Mongolia's first-generation pastors.

In the last six years, she has been in Hollywood as a missionary to those in the entertainment industry and to those living on the streets. Dr. Darnell works with women who have experienced trauma related to molestation, date rape, and sexual slavery.

It is her passion to see people not only recognize their destiny but aspire to live it.
