Editorial Book Review:

By Anette Engel

People often think of discipline as a strict, hard process that requires huge sacrifices and a never-ending ability to control oneself. I loved how this book turned that idea on its head. Instead of advocating for punishing routines or forcing yourself through exhausting productivity hacks, it focuses on a more intentional and strategic approach. The main point is clear: discipline isn't about going through pain; it's about putting your attention on what really matters and giving up everything else. That new way of looking at things was both exciting and very useful.

The book introduces the concept of putting maximum effort into the right problems instead of stretching yourself thin over countless tasks. That idea alone is a game-changer. Too often, we chase after every opportunity, thinking that working harder is the solution when, in reality, it’s about working smarter. The strategies presented here are built around creating effortless discipline systems, raising personal standards, and making critical “North Star” decisions that help eliminate distractions. It’s not just about getting more done—it’s about making better choices that lead to meaningful results.

It was very helpful to focus on identity shifts. There are a lot of books about habits, but this one goes further and looks at how we see ourselves as the beginning of real change. No matter how much you plan or how motivated you are, nothing will change if you don't see yourself as someone who works at a high level. The practical steps for reshaping identity and reinforcing high standards felt like something I could implement instantly.

The book talks about how to deal with setbacks, staying away from burnout, and being more productive. It's clear, to the point, and based on real-life situations. It wasn't just theories, which I liked; it gave me a clear plan for how to live a disciplined life that is still satisfying and balanced.

You don't have to be an entrepreneur or a high achiever to read this book. Anyone who wants to get more done without always feeling too busy can use it. The messages is strong, the insights are strong, and the strategies can be used. The message challenges everything we know about discipline. Just the fact that it made me feel more in charge of my schedule and my thoughts makes it worth reading.
